Written and researched by Project Resist in collaboration with the Angelou Centre, "Why do I have to hide away?" serves as an urgent response to the devastating racist, anti-migrant, anti-Muslim and anti-minorities riots that shook the UK in summer 2024.
Rooted in the lived experiences of Black, minoritised and migrant women, children and young people, the report makes a compelling intervention in debates surrounding the widespread social upheaval that has followed, illuminating how racist and far right populist rhetoric fuels both racial violence and misogyny.
As an integral part of the broader Angelou Centre’s wider Stories of Colour project, the research centres the voices of those most affected by the riots and uncovers the multi-faceted ways in which the events have impacted on the security and safety of women and children while reflecting on what this means for anti-racist resistance.
